From Executive Director Griff Lynch

At the Georgia Ports Authority, we are expanding our intermodal rail services to better accommodate our expanding customer base, with a new effort we call the Mid-American Arc.

As the westernmost major hub port on the U.S. East Coast, hosting more weekly vessel calls than any port in the South Atlantic region, Savannah is perfectly situated to expand its services to Mid-American Arc cities, ranging from Atlanta to Memphis,St. Louis, Chicago and the Ohio Valley.

But that led to a potential conflict of interest. In the event of damaged freight, the shipping line could end up representing its own interests and that of the cargo owner.
